The present form of the mausoleum took shape in the 20th century, but the memory of Nizami's burial place was long kept here.
The Mausoleum
The mausoleum is a tall cylindrical structure of dark granite, adorned with gilded inscriptions — lines by the poet. Its austere form is visible from afar.
The first modern mausoleum was built in 1947 on the site of an old, collapsed one, and the monument took its present form in 1991.

Inside the tower reigns a restrained solemnity. Nearby are a museum, a garden and a square with sculptures of the heroes of the Khamsa.
The whole complex was granted the status of a protected cultural monument.
